Will I still continue to receive LTD benefits if I access my pension, either through retirement or I accept the Early Retirement Incentive Benefit (ERIB) program payout?
No. If you retire and receive a pension, either through direct retirement or through the Early Retirement Incentive Benefit (ERIB) program, your LTD benefits will cease. Please ensure that Canada Life is aware of your retirement as soon as possible to avoid an overpayment of LTD benefits.
When retiring through the ERIB program, you may continue to be covered for Group Life and AD&D at no cost to you until you reach age 65, at which point you may convert to your own private policy with Canada Life without the need to provide medical evidence of insurability. You must apply within 31 days of your coverage termination to access this coverage.
In addition, if you were enrolled in the Extended Health & Dental benefits while on LTD, you may continue coverage to age 65 if you continue to pay 50% of the monthly contributions to your employer. Alternatively, you may elect to obtain your coverage directly through BC Pensions, or convert to an individual policy through Pacific Blue Cross. For more information on converting your group benefit coverage, please visit PBC’s Personal Group Benefit Plan Conversion. You must apply within 60 days of terminating your employer coverage.
